Lydia Austin Parrish (1871-1953) was the wife of painter/illustrator, Maxfield Parrish. For many years she spent her winters in St. Simons Island, and her love of the islands led to the research for Slave songs of the Georgia Sea Islands. Carita Doggett Corse was the director of the Florida Federal Writers' Project from its inception in 1935 until 1942. She was the author of a number of historical publications including "The Key to the Golden Islands" and "Dr. Andrew Turnbull and the New Smyrna Colony of Florida" which was an account of her great-great-great grandfather's role in the founding of that colony.
